About

Redmoon’s Mission:

Redmoon Theater creates theatrical spectacles that transform streets, stages, and architectural landmarks into places of public celebration utilizing an original language capable of speaking across cultural, ethnic, and generational boundaries.

In a world that encourages ever greater isolation and individual focus, Redmoon Theater makes theatrical events in public spaces that challenge the boundaries that sit between people and that inspire a shared experience of our common humanity.

To that end we…

  • perform in unusual venues that encourage non-traditional theater audiences to forge new relationships between fellow audience members, the work itself, and the location in which it takes place.
  • speak a universal, highly visual language accessible to all (regardless of age, education, and culture) and grounded in the dynamic elements of spectacle: hand-crafted objects, aggressive physical movement, whimsical mechanical devices, masks, puppets, and live music.
  • foster deep neighborhood-based relationships with the community, based on the mutual promise of prolonged exchange and commitment.
  • integrate the voices of many into the theatrical process by creating long-term relationships, based on sincere artistic exchange, with outside artists, community organizations, and members of our own geographic community.
  • work in a deeply collaborative process that encourages lengthy incubation and developmental period, the integration of expert visiting artists and non theater-makers alike, the opportunity to bring work before audiences in varying stages of development, and the demand that our work continue to defy our own sense of the possible.
