15-20 hr/week

RSPP Position Overview

RSPP Teaching Artists will be responsible for planning and teaching theme-based, arts-integrated curriculum. They are responsible for preparation and maintenance of art materials and supplies. In conjunction with NAP Director, Audubon Teaching staff and other Redmoon staff, Teaching Artists are also responsible for strategic planning, documentation, evaluation and feedback to contribute to long-term goal setting for the program.

Specific Job Responsibilities

Art Instruction:
Deliver 60 to 90 minute lessons that include hands-on art instruction, discussion, and reflection in collaboration with classroom teachers

Instruct students ranging in grade levels 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 8th coming from a variety of backgrounds including children with disabilities and children who speak English as a Second Language.

Program Planning:

Participate in the Summer Institute Planning sessions to develop program theme and arts-integrated curriculum for the upcoming year in partnership with Audubon School teachers, Redmoon Theater Teaching Staff, and NAP Director

Work with Summer Institute Planning Committee to incorporate tenets of Spectacle Theater into curriculum that is aligned with Illinois State Standards. Primary content areas are; Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and Fine Arts

Collaborate with Audubon School teachers, Redmoon Theater Teaching staff, and NAP Director; to develop hands-on arts-integrated lesson plans for elementary students that relates to the classroom curriculum and other themes developed during the Summer Institute Planning sessions

Work with Audubon teachers and staff, NAP Director and Redmoon Teaching Artists to plan for the end-of-year event at Audubon.

Assist NAP Director in the coordination of Audubon participation in Fall Spectacle and other Redmoon events.

Coordinate relevant field trips with classroom teachers

Coordinate teaching schedule with Audubon classroom teachers.

Documentation, Evaluation, Assessment:

Prepare and submit documentation of all lesson plans, activities, and assessment of RSPP programming consistent with NAP Department standards

Meet with classroom teachers regularly to access and revise lesson plans

Meet with NAP Director for assessment and reflection after the end of each teaching unit

Meet regularly with classroom teachers to insure that themes and topics are consistent with State Standards and Audubon School’s learning objectives

Administrative:
Complete all expense related documents with receipts and documentation

Complete and submit weekly reports of program activities to NAP Director

Assist NAP Director with tracking of budget expenditures

Keep track of all pertinent student-related documents on-site

Assist NAP Director and Marketing Director to increase awareness of the program within the local school community

Community Building:
Assist NAP Director in communicating current events and activities between Audubon School, Chase Elementary, Redmoon Theater, and the local neighborhood

Work with Audubon School teachers and staff to recruit students and parents for Spring Pageant

Collaborate with Audubon Spring Pageant Committee to create story for presentation

Position Qualifications

Teaching Artist should have:
Excellent communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with others

A strong background in visual arts, theater and education

Experience providing hands-on art education to children

Experience designing and implementing age -appropriate art curriculum

Experience in program documentation and evaluation a plus

Able to demonstrate an ability to engage, challenge and interest youth through the arts

Knowledgeable of youth development and arts education principles and practices

Ability to establish safe, inclusive, supportive and creative environments for children, parents, teachers, and volunteers

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, plan ahead, anticipate and articulate program needs, and work independently

Ability to problem-solve, be flexible, imaginative and have a sense of humor

Familiarity with Spectacle Theater and a clear understanding of Redmoon’s mission is desirable
