We recently sat down with another Princess Club member to discuss her feelings about the project:

ENGINEER: What is the Princess Club?

PRINCESS: The Princess Club is a members only organization of absolute absurdity. It exists in a world far removed from modern convention. The only way to become a member is to be a blank and willing slate, no former knowledge allowed, for existent members to dress-up, mold, and instruct. These womanesque members live in a world of their own construction, that is based on tiny snippets of an “outside” that they might catch on distant radio sounds, or foreign images hanging in abandoned lockers, but most essentially, on a collection of storage boxes that fall from “above”, and that are filled with basic fairy tales. The logic of this club stems from the logic of fairy tales, where damsels are in distress and where men save all, where witches are old “hags”, and where shoe size is crucial to being a star. One must have a superb sense of fashion. One must speak correctly, runway walk appropriately, and have the child-like ability to unleash her imagination in games both vulgar and beautiful.

ENGINEER: What is the experience of rehearsal and discovery like for you?

PRINCESS: It is fascinating!! I am finding more and more that the best way to prepare for a rehearsal/workshop is to do nothing whatsoever, to clear out any ideas I might want to bring, and to let my impulses govern the body and brain instead. The more I think about the correct thing to do, the less lively and entertaining the exercises become. We are discovering one another in a primal sense. We sniff each others’ butts. Really. No not really. I’m kidding. By primal I mean that we are interacting with one another without common language, without everyday courtesies, and without inhibition. The process is very exciting because I feel as though I am discovering my fellow playmates in the most original and primitive form. And I know what their butts smell like too. Juuuust kidding.

ENGINEER: What do you think the Princess Club means?

PRINCESS: I have no idea. My best lead to guessing what the Princess Club might mean would be, “Look what happens when…”

ENGINEER: Why are you involved with the project?

PRINCESS: I cannot think of anywhere else I would rather be. When we are in rehearsal/workshop, I am at ease and highly emotional in the same moment. I continually look forward to what comes next.
