Well, WE ARE OPEN!! Such a luxury to have 4 previews before the press opening. It’s a little unheard of. Guess I’ve gotten used to being thrown to the dogs…so to speak.
Our first public opening was last night and it felt good. It truly feels like our show now, though we continue to explore and find our own voice and breath onstage. I say that because it is hard to perform in such an original show that you did not “create.” Meaning, because we did not make this baby from the ground up, we have had to work extra hard to find where we, as people/characters/actors, can be true and real. I had to find who I am onstage, regardless of what the person in 2000 did.
On one side, a remount is great. Yes, the hard work is already done for you; but, as aforementioned, it feels stange that I didn’t put in a solid 6 months of interpretation, text work, insane acrobatics, sweat, and tears. Guess I can tend to be a glutton for punishment when it comes to the amount of work and process I choose to be involved with!
However, Leslie is an amazing director, and we were all safe in her hands. She is an incredible leader, and the cast feels good to be onstage with. We are all very close and it is an insane amount of fun and joy to be in the presence of these people every night.
