Tell your friends and loved ones in NYC and LA – a Redmoon-affiliated production is coming their way!
FIRST: An acclaimed miniature spectacle created by Frank Maugeri, Redmoon’s associate artistic director, is heading to New York to be a part of The Great Small Works Eighth Annual Toy Theater Festival, taking place May 30 and May 31.
Laika’s Coffin is an epic suitcase opera based on the biography of the doomed first animal in space. Three suitcases open to reveal remarkable miniature Soviet sets while an operatic narrator and three puppeteers animate the melancholy saga. The mini-tragedy won Best Director and Best Production at its premiere at Collaboraction’s Sketchbook in 2006. It’s a beautiful, heart-wrenching piece, created by Frank in conjunction with other long-time Redmoon collaborators Seth Bockley (writer) and Kevin O’Donnell (composer).
If you can’t make it to New York, see the full show HERE - seriously, you don’t want to miss this lovely little piece!
SECOND: Once Upon a Time (or the Secret Language of Birds), the fable created by Frank and novelist Joe Meno (with music by Kevin O’Donnell) is heading to Los Angeles to participate in the first-ever Toy Theater Festival. The action in Once Upon a Time unfolds in an elaborately crafted toy theater… if you didn’t catch this show last year at Redmoon Central, check out the preview HERE.
The Toy Theater Festival will take place at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles June 14-15; go HERE to learn more about the programming and venue.
