Dramagirls

The Dramagirls Program pairs middle school girls from Chase School in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood with female artist mentors in an intensive exploration of creativity and leadership. Founded on the principle that performing “powerful actions create powerful girls”, the program uses components of Redmoon’s unique form of spectacle theater making, such as stilt-walking, acting, ritual-making, drumming, and symbolic movements, to lead girls in the creation of an original production based on stories of their own lives. The program’s strong emphasis on mentorship allows the girls to foster unique and individual relationships with professional female artists whose expertise represent a variety of artistic disciplines, such as theater, dance, improvisational comedy, and classical music.

Don’t miss Dramagirls’ annual Spring Spectacle, celebrating the Dramagirls’ work during the 2007-2008 school year!

We Don’t Like Being Shushed explores an interactive library, with sprouting books, insect soundscapes, and bookcases that come to life with poetic pictures.
