Spectacle ‘05: Loves Me… Loves Me Not
Dates: September 15 - 25, 2005
Location: Jackson Park Lagoon, 5700 S Lake Shore Drive
Spectacle ‘05: Loves Me… Loves Me Not transformed the lagoon in Jackson Park into a water-bound village featuring five inventive water crafts, a thirty-foot long sunken house, and fourteen outrageous characters depicting life after a cataclysmic flood. Original music was performed by a live band, along with vocal accompaniment by the 75-member Nia Imani Youth Gospel Choir. All elements of the show, including costumes, sets, and music, were completely redesigned just days before the opening performance, in light of the recent Hurricane Katrina tragedy. Spectacle ‘05: Loves Me… Loves Me Not is a magical and poetic narrative that boasts a collaboration of more than 120 people. Ten percent of ticket sale proceeds benefited the Disaster Relief Fund of the American Red Cross.
“This isn’t a piece of theater as much as it is an attempt to create a meditative space…the heart and compassion behind Redmoon’s spectacle can’t be denied.” - Chicago Tribune
“…visually remarkable… the beauty of slow-moving, starkly lit objects on water induces nearly overwhelming emotion.” - TimeOut Chicago Magazine
